Fire safety was a major issue when it came to the specification of doors and windows at a new, state-of-the-art children’s hospital in Sheffield.
Arkoni was asked to manufacture and install fire resistant screen and door sets for the new Outpatients Department that opened in late 2016.
Arkoni Director Martin Quarmby took up the story: “The new department offers spacious waiting rooms with a much brighter children friendly environment. The whole concept is based on the experience of visiting a warm, welcoming place, a far cry from the traditional hospital environment.
“We manufactured, supplied and installed Forster Presto integrity only and Forster Fuego (Integrity & Insulated) screens and door sets in varying fire ratings from 30/0 (E30 integrity only) to 60/60 (EI60 integrity and insulation).
“The work was carried out in phases over a 2 year period from June 2015. Finished sections were handed over phase by phase. The hospital also has a large play tube relaxation area for children which also has fire-rated glazing protection to its glazed areas,” added Martin.
