Soaring 461m into the air, the Vingroup Landmark Tower is the tallest building currently under construction at the banks of the River Saigon. The building comprises commercial, retail and luxury residential apartments with a gross floor area of 141,200m², forming a centrepiece of a new residential development.

The shape of the building resembles a bundle of bamboo canes to reference the area’s agricultural past and the nation’s much revered home-grown resource.

The 81-storey tower with three levels of basement is built in an area with exceptionally poor quality soil, presenting a number of challenges to the design team. The design solution adopted a thick raft supported on barrette pile, which allowed for maximum flexibility for the subsequent development of the design even as the foundation was being constructed - a necessary requirement imposed by the fast-track design and construction programme.

As the current local fire safety codes are not suitable for a building of this height, Arup was commissioned to design the fire safety strategy and provide expert advice based on the internationally recognised NFPA 5000 Building construction and Safety code.

This is the first project in Vietnam on which lift assisted evacuation strategy is used as a means for evacuation for people with various mobility conditions. The benefits of this system included reduction of risk of injury and total evacuation.

Project Summary

462 m - the tallest tower in Vietnam

81 - storeys

142,000m² - GFA
