The City of Corpus Christi Solid Waste Operations Department and the Clean City Committee are offering a Glass Recycling Event. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Wal-Mart store located in Calallen at 3829 US Highway 77.
Coordinators of the effort say that many residents have been asking for glass recycling events. As a result of those requests, the one this Saturday will be the second to be held this year. During the first effort back in March, more than 300 residents dropped off 10.7 tons of glass for recycling.
Glass is one of the few materials that can be recycled indefinitely without losing strength, purity or quality. During the recycling event, all colors of glass and any type of glass will be accepted from citizens. Participants are asked to keep the colors of their glass separated as that is how processors accept it. Coordinators also say volunteer opportunities and community service hours are available for the event.
