More than 100 workers at glass manufacturer Viridian's Victorian and NSW plants are facing redundancies within the year.

Staff at the Clayton facility were yesterday informed by managers of redundancies.

Frank Vari, national vice-president for the CFMEU's Furnishings and Forestry Products Division, which represents affected workers, said they did not accept the company's reasons.

In a letter to the union, Viridian blamed "declining house construction", the high Australian dollar and increased manufacturing costs for a restructure that had prompted the redundancies.
