The average price of glass plummeted 23.2% in June compared to May 2011, while aggregates and sand soared 26%. These are some of the findings from the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi’s (SCAD’s) latest report on building material prices.
The monthly report presents an analysis of the movements in the prices of the various materials used in the construction industry in the Abu Dhabi market during June 2011.
Certain sectors showed minimal declines, such as a 10% drop in the ‘Bathroom Set without Accessories’ and ‘Stainless Steel Sink with Mixer-Single’ categories.
Steel showed a 4% increase, mainly as a result of a 9% increase in the price of 6-8mm steel bars from Turkey. The next largest rise was in the price of paints, which increased by 3.6% on average, mainly as a result of a 14% increase in the gallon price of Durosan matt emulsion.
Looking at some comparisons between June 2011 and last year, the report reveals a staggering 44.1% increase in power-cable prices, reflecting a rise of 67% in the price of 1,800mm2/km 132kV copper cable.
The second-biggest year-on-year increase was transport equipment, up 37% due to a 52% spike in the 20m3trucks. In addition, the prices of aggregates and sand rose by 29.8% and wires by 26% year on year.
