TOKYO (Dow Jones)--Sony Corp. (6758.TO) said Wednesday that the company is not in any talks with Samsung Electronics Co. (005930.SE) about discontinuing their liquid crystal display panel joint venture.
"There are no talks at all about discontinuing the joint venture," a spokeswoman for the Japanese electronics maker said.
She added the joint venture remains strategically important for Sony.
Citing an unnamed industry source, Chosun Ilbo reported Wednesday that Samsung is considering closing down its seven-year flat panel-making joint venture with Sony Corp. (6758.TO).
"Samsung and Sony are currently discussing closing its LCD JV," the South Korean newspaper quoted the source as saying. "Sony is considering pulling out from the joint venture by selling off its stake in it."
A Samsung spokesman said the report is "totally groundless."
