Glazed area of office buildings in Bucharest exceeds one million square meters, according to estimates of Saint-Gobain Glass Co. Romania. The company delivered about 500,000 square meters of this surface, mainly providing top performing products, such as glass with solar control or with thermal and acoustic insulation.
Saint-Gobain Glass Romania has delivered more than half of the approximately 500,000 square meters in four years, with the inauguration of the factory in Calarasi (south) in 2007, an investment now amounting to over 170 million euros.
Regionally, the largest glazed area of office buildings, over two million square meters of glass can be found in Warsaw, a city where the area of office space is almost double that of Bucharest, with the office spaces of approximately 1.8 million square meters, according to Saint-Gobain Glass estimates.
'It's hard to appreciate the value of glass for office buildings in Bucharest, but it represents about 30 percent of the fa鏰de cost, which, depending on the project, can exceed even 50 percent of the total investment', said Cosmin Popescu, Director of marketing of Saint-Gobain Glass Romania.
Saint-Gobain Glass is the leading glass manufacturer in Europe and the second producer worldwide, with sales of over 5.4 billion euros in 2010, according to the release.
The company entered the market in Romania in 2005, but started producing glass in 2007, with the completion of a glass factory in Calarasi. The factory in Romania, with more than 250 employees, is one of the main production centers of this group in Europe, Agerpres reports.
