Recently AGC announced that it has developed the ultra-thin float glass with only 0.1mm thickness, as thin as a paper. The product is made of alkali-free glass and will be applied in next generation display, illuminator, touch screen, medical equipment and other high-tech applications.
With the development of next generation of flexible display and OLED illuminator technique, thinner, energy saving green display and OLED illumination attract more and more people’s attention, which makes higher requirements on glass materials, including glass substrate and cover glass in touch screen and base plate used in display. It’s because thin glass have features of flexible plasticity, light weight as well as basic features of glass such as transparent, insulativity, heat resistance, chemical resistance and gas proof.
AGC has rich experience in thin glass production. Five more years earlier, the company has mass produced alkali-free glass with thickness of 0.4mm used as TFT glass substrate, and later, the thickness was reduced to 0.3mm. In April, 2011, GC started to sale the thinnest Sodium calcium glass substrate applied in touch screen, the thickness is only 0.28mm.
