"Working in glass enables me to crystallize and preserve intangible experiences so they escape the fleeting nature of time,” says Zhitneva. While the works shown in Fused are indeed glass, they are also extravagantly painterly.
Aside from the fused panels for which she is well known, this show introduces a new body of work in which the artist takes the very concept of "fused" a step further: In this work Zhitneva brings together materials that are not usually considered compatible, such as fragments of medieval stained glass and disposable plastic.
