As Gulf Glass 2011 Exhibition closes its doors at ADNEC, Abu Dhabi, those that exhibited and visited leave with an optimism and expectation for the region’s growing glass industry.

For many, the event proved extremely successful. Mega Enterprises, a leading Egyptian glass technology supplier, declared it had a “great” show, having experienced high quality meetings and gaining many useful contacts for future follow up. Elsewhere, two  of Germany’s leading equipment suppliers, Hegla GmbH & Co KG and MHG Strahlanlagen, both took sizeable orders for their machines at the exhibition.

Des Burston, Event Manager for Gulf Glass 2011, was pleased with how the event fared, in light of recent unrest in the region. “Overall, the exhibitors left happy; the MENA region remains one of the most strategically significant in the industry, and will become increasingly more so in the next 3-5 years, as construction and related industries climb ever further out of recession” he added.

“Whilst visitor numbers were a little down on previously, the fact that the still-recovering economies combined with the current political situation in the region still managed to yield such a number of positives was encouraging” said Burston. “As most exhibitors have told us, the key to a successful show is not volume of short meetings, but serious conversations with high quality buyers and potential customers, and that is what appears to have been achieved again”.

As the industry continues to grow in sophistication, so will the Gulf Glass series and the importance of a MENA-wide, dedicated meeting place.
