Vitro Architectural Glass officials are assessing damage at the company’s Carlisle, Pa., float glass plant after a glass leak caused a fire Thursday morning.
According to a statement from Vitro, the leak was discovered on one of two glass melting furnaces at the facility. “The local fire department responded, and one employee was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation,” the company stated.
Local media outlets report that at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday, fire crews from six counties were dispatched to the plant, which employs more than 340 people and manufacturers flat glass for the commercial and residential markets.
The fire, which reached three-alarm status at one point, was extinguished by 4 p.m., according to The Sentinel.
Cumberland County communications director Rachel Bryson said all employees at the plant were accounted for, and no community evacuations were issued. A fire crew was still on the scene early Thursday evening assisting with clean-up efforts.
“The extent of the damage is not yet known,” Vitro said in the statement. “Company officials are assessing the situation and will have more information when it is available.”
