Saint-Gobain Italy is in first position in Europe with regards to sustainability in building and construction materials, and one of the top three global companies, according to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2018 (DJSI), relative to 2017.
The DJSI examines companies based on three criteria: economic dimension (codes of business conduct, risk and crisis management, supply chain management); environmental dimension (climate strategy, operational eco-efficiency, product management) and social dimension (development of human capital, health and safety at work, attraction and preservation of talent).
The production of buildings and constructions requires huge amounts of energy,” according to the DJSI 2018, “and the reduction of energy consumption is a top priority alongside climate strategies, operating efficiency, and – of course – protection of health and safety in the workplace. During their lifetime, buildings are responsible for about 40% of the global consumption of energy, 25% of water usage, and they emit 33% of greenhouse gas emissions (as reported in the Environmental Programme of the United Nations -UNEP).
