Workers remove glass panels from the balconies at the W Austin after fallouts and breakages.
Officials from developer Stratus Properties provided an update June 29 on the removal of almost 1,000 panes of glass from the W Austin Hotel and Residences following several instances of fallout and breakage.
According to Beau Armstrong, CEO, Stratus Properties, as of 4 p.m. on June 29, about 600 glass panels on the building were removed from their frames and secured. Temporary engineered wood panels were prepared for installation on the balconies.
The developer did not provide any additional information on the cause behind the three instances of glass fallout and breakage, one of which injured four people. "A comprehensive investigation continues and we will provide updates on our progress in the coming days," Armstrong says.
