PITTSBURGH, July 26, 2011 – PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) announced today that it has been selected by CIO Magazine as a 2011 CIO 100 Award recipient for innovative application and use of information technology. The award recognizes technology created by PPG’s architectural coatings business to enable consumers to digitally select paint colors for their homes.
PPG was awarded the honor for the COLORCLIX(R) digital platform from OLYMPIC(R) Paints. The ColorClix tool was created to aid consumers in digitally selecting color, defining project needs and purchasing paint. It is the paint industry's first fully-integrated and multiplatform-enabled digital paint purchase tool, enabling consumers to convert colors from their photographs, videos or other digital inspirations into favorite paint colors. The technology then applies users’ colors to sample room settings to help showcase looks and themes.
“The CIO 100 Award signifies PPG Industries’ commitment to delivering innovative digital solutions that complement our leading architectural paint brands,” said Jeff Lipniskis, PPG director of information technology, architectural coatings. “Consumers increasingly rely on the online space for design inspiration and decorating advice, so the ColorClix platform was created to eliminate stress from the color selection process by providing an online portal where homeowners can easily go from concept to purchase.”
To help consumers build confidence in their color selections, the ColorClix platform aggregates color popularity information and the ability to visualize colors in a room setting. It offers an integrated process for viewing colors, saving projects and ordering paint samples online as well as a list of retail locations offering Olympic paint for in-store pickup. The ColorClix mobile app is available in the Apple App Store or Android Market. The personal computer version of the ColorClix tool is available to download from www.olympic.com for both Windows and Mac operating systems.
“This year's CIO 100 Awards draws well-deserved attention to companies that are not only innovating with IT but creating genuine business value as well," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO Magazine & Events. "These winning companies and their IT organizations are an inspiration to businesses everywhere.”
PPG will receive its CIO 100 Award at the CIO 100 Symposium and Awards Ceremony in August in Colorado Springs.
About the CIO 100 Award
The recipients of this year's CIO 100 award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of judges reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges' recommendations and voted on the final 100. Complete coverage of the 2011 CIO 100 awards will be online at www.cio.com on Aug. 1, 2011, and in the Aug. 1 issue of CIO Magazine.
