Michigan-based Guardian Automotive has opened a new auto-glass distribution center on Tucson’s south side.
Guardian Automotive, based in the Detroit suburb of Sterling Heights, Mich., is a major manufacturer of automotive glass and operates 10 distribution warehouses across the nation, including one in Phoenix and its newest one in Tucson.
The 10,000-square foot Tucson warehouse employs five people, Guardian spokeswoman Amy Hennes said.
A subsidiary of Guardian Industries, Guardian Automotive manufactures auto-glass products both for automakers and for the aftermarket.
A separate Guardian division makes fiberglass insulation at a plant in Kingman. All together, Guardian employs about 100 people in Arizona, Hennes said.
The auto-glass centers provide day and night local and nationwide delivery service for automotive, truck, bus and RV glass, and installation tools and accessories.
The new center will improve service to customers in the Southwest, Scott Billings, director of distribution operations for Guardian, said in prepared remarks.
