When a Cheshire householder added a wraparound terrace to her canalside home, she turned to Balcony Systems for the low-maintenance 39-metre curved and straight glass balustrading solution to keep the views.
A key factor in Lynda Hadfield’s choice was Balcony’s innovative self-cleaning glass coating, which creates a smooth surface that quickly repels water, dirt and grime to keep the glass cleaner for longer. This double-sided coating reduces cleaning and does not require harsh chemicals to do the job effectively.
Balcony Systems supplied 26 metres of straight glass and aluminium balustrading, plus nine metres of curved panels, with the shiny Royal Chrome handrail finish replicating the look of stainless steel. This was installed by its specialist team on the extensive brick and granite terrace surrounding the bungalow on three sides.
Curved panels follow the lines of a semi-circular patio area within the extensive terrace that provides level leisure areas above the sloping garden, while also enhancing the property’s external appearance.
“I wanted the beautiful look of glass balustrading and to keep any cleaning chores to an absolute minimum,” explained Lynda. “I had heard about self-cleaning glass technology and that’s why I specified Balcony’s self-cleaning coated glass.
“It really does work; I simply hose it down regularly and any dirt just washes off the glass and greatly reduces maintenance. Clear glass was important for me, as I wanted to retain views of the narrowboats on the Cheshire Ring canal system from the terrace. The balustrading looks excellent and I am very pleased with it,” she added.
Balcony Systems’ affordable self-cleaning glass coating option can be specified at the design stage for bespoke projects or supplied on off-the-shelf Juliette balconies. Standard handrail finishes are also offered in white, silver and bronze.
