Leading sealed unit manufacturers Glass Systems have smashed through the 33,000 unit per week barrier following a record breaking trading period. The South Wales based company reported an impressive 20% increase in sales compared to the same time last year, further cementing their position as the UK’s largest independent sealed unit manufacturer.
John Wood, Chairman of Glass Systems commented: “I am delighted to report such strong sales but the increase hasn’t come easy. Lots of hard work by an experienced and committed workforce, an attention to detail unrivalled by our competition and continual dialogue with our customers all contribute to our ongoing success. Investment has also played a major part. In 2010 we acquired three gas presses, two new edge deletion cutting lines and the expansion of our modern delivery fleet. We were also the first company in the UK to purchase a Lisec spacer bar bender specially designed for bending Swisspacer warm edge spacer bar.
Despite being the “first” we are pleased to report it’s far exceeding our expectations and we will be looking to order a second later this year.” According to John, this investment will continue throughout 2011 as the company looks to further accelerate their growth. “We have already ordered a Lisec KSR – an automatic arising line capable of arising shapes, to cope with the continuing expansion at Climate our conservatory roof line. Meanwhile our Cardiff factory will be taking on additional factory space and a second line has been ordered, with the aim to double its current 9,000 unit per week capacity.” Glass System’s success is all the more remarkable considering they currently only target the South but as John explains, they have plans to expand: “Our increased capacity will give us the ability to go further afield and service customers in the North and North West of England. We have just recruited a well known and well respected industry sales professional who will help us develop this territory and bring our products to a new range of customers.“
