Hillcrest Glass, based in Longmont, Colo., has opened a new location to better serve its growing commercial business.
Owners Lisa and Michael Sklar say the new 5,000-square foot facility that opened in late April has allowed them to centralize all their commercial equipment, while also centralizing their many fabricators, project managers, estimators and glaziers, allowing the company to more efficiently satisfy its growing commercial end that accounts for roughly 70 percent of their business.
Located near the interstate highway in Frederick, the new location’s closer proximity to both nearby Denver and Fort Collins will help Hillcrest run a smoother overall operation, Lisa Sklar says. Trucks now headed to either city can be loaded up at night.
“It was a big step for us,” she says. “It’s a lot easier now for us to jump on the highway and get where we need to get going.”
Hillcrest continues to manage its residential business from the company’s original location in Longmont.
The Sklars bought Hillcrest in 2007, but the business itself turned 44 this year.
The new location is nearly triple the size of the company’s original site and comes complete with 1,000 square feet of dedicated office space. Michael Sklar will split time between the two locations, while his wife will continue to be based in downtown Longmont, where the company performs repairs and sells retail items such as shower doors and mirrors.
“It makes it much more efficient for us,” Lisa Sklar says.
The company’s commercial projects include the Microsoft/Bing building in Boulder, for which it won an award from the Colorado Glazing Contractors Association.
