Manufacturer of glass fiber reinforcements for composite systems, Owens Corning has launched a multi-end roving called OC HiLight for transparent panels at the JEC Composites Show.
Owens Corning has used its patented Advantex E-CR glass fiber to develop the OC HiLight. The multi-end roving has a patented sizing that offers high transparency. It is ideal for use in greenhouses, cladding, skylights and other architectural purposes. The finished laminates contain higher proportion of glass fiber and thus exhibit better mechanical properties, including stiffness and robustness. Higher glass content reduces the amount of resin required in a thinner panel and thus decreases production costs.
The OC HiLight roving is exclusively developed for unsaturated polyester resin panels. It reduces light distortion and formation of white fibers and eliminates air entrapment, resulting in a better clarity product than competitive solutions.
Hans van der Steen, Owens Corning’s Product Leader for assembled rovings and chopped strand mat for the Asia Pacific and European market, commented that the OC HiLight roving provides numerous benefits, including better light transmission, optical quality and clarity, to laminate panel producers. The product is compatible with various methods and thus expands the options available to designers with decorative and intricate shapes.
