 Set in a 10 acre wooded site in Oxfordshire this residential home was extended into the garden using IQ’s expertise in minimal glazing to enhance the views of the surrounding Chiltern landscape, designated an area of outstanding natural beauty.
In the gable end roof three shaped panels of structural glass were used as frameless glass elements in the roofing structure. The architecture and glass of the project was expertly mixed using a zinc fascia and flashings to the surrounding face.
Architecture and Glass: minimal framing used to enhance views Beneath the stone coping minimal windows surround all accessible elevations of the extension. The sliding doors are configured with an opening corner section to allow each set of sliders to slide away from the feature corner of the works. On the gabled end two panels of minimal windows slide before a panel of fixed, frameless structural glass. This enabled us to connect the structural unit framelessly to the smaller glass units on the far side of the space with a seamless glass to glass junction.
Architecture and Glass: Sliding Doors Opening Corner Under Timber Beam The smaller fixed elements are minimally integrated into the timber framing, recessing the double glazed spacer 25mm into the timber works, merging the architectural feature of the timber posts and the frameless glass. The glass in the minimal windows sliding doors along the south facing elevation was specified with a solar control coating to the glass units used to minimise any overheating in the highly glazed space from solar gain.
